4th annual Club Championship begins Jun 26!

 

The TOCC’s next weekly tournament, the 4th annual (2017) Club Championship, begins June 26! This event is unique in that it features six rounds instead of the typical five and takes place in a single section. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as in eight class categories: Best U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000, U700, and U400.  The first-place winner receives free entry at the club for an entire year, and all these other winners receive one free tournament entry! Also unique for this event are the prizes for Biggest Upset and Most Upset Points (see below for details)!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP!

Tournament begins June 26, 2017 and runs until Aug 7, with one round played every consecutive Monday evening except July 17. See schedule below.

 

 

Prizes!

1st: Champion trophy + Free tourney entries for 1 year
2nd, 3rd, and Class winners: Trophy + 1 free tourney entry
Class prizes awarded in eight categories: Best U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400, U1200, U1000, U700, and U400
Others: Trophies awarded for Biggest Upset and Most Upset Points (exclusive to this event!)
Bonus prizes awarded to Best Unrated and 2nd Best in all classes if there are enough players in these categories.

Entry Fee: $30

6-SS G/60 d5       (6 round Swiss-System; time control is 60 minutes plus a 5 sec delay)

Registration: June 26, 2017 6:00 pm at the club, or any time prior.
Advance registration preferred!
• Round 1: June 26, 6:30 pm.
• Round 2: July 3, 6:30 pm.
• Round 3: July 10, 6:30 pm.
July 17 – 2017 Club BLITZ Championship! Reg. 6 pm. See respective flyer!
• Round 4: July 24, 6:30 pm.
• Round 5: July 31, 6:30 pm.
• Round 6: Aug 7, 6:30 pm.

 

This is a USCF rated tournament. In order to play, you must be a current member of the United States Chess Federation. You can sign up online or with us at the club.

2 half-point byes available. Rounds 1-5 must be requested by 3:00 pm the Monday night of the round. The final round, Rd. 6, must be requested before the start of Rd. 4 (July 24). Byes requested later than the specified times will be zero points instead of half-points. If you cannot make it for a round, PLEASE let us know ASAP so you aren’t paired and end up forfeiting your game!!

Please bring your own chess sets and clocks! These supplies and more are available at the club for purchase.

Notes on prizes: The Biggest Upset prize is awarded to the player who defeats a higher-rated player with the greatest rating point difference. Both players must have established ratings.
The Most Upset Points prize is awarded to the player who accumulates the most upset points over the course of the event. All players involved must have ratings based off of at least 20 games.
At least 3 players must be eligible for each prize in each category for that prize to be awarded. There must be at least 3 eligible players for the Best Unr prize to be awarded, and at least 8 players in a given category for 2nd Best prizes to be awarded.
