Open Play in the Park thru June + Goebel Center Update

**Update: Open Play in the Park continues July 5, 12, 19 & 26!

Open Play in the Park will resume next week, Monday June 7 and continue throughout the month!

Mondays Jun 7, 14, 21 & 28

Location: Conejo Creek North Park (large park behind the library & senior center) Click or scroll down for Google Maps.

Hours:  5:30–7:45 pm

Feel free to come or go anytime — this is a casual event.

Our usual meeting spot is the Lakeside Pavilion (the largest pavilion and the second that you pass on your way into the park). However, if it happens to be reserved we’ll move to one of the other pavilions (Creekside or Willowbend).

Masks required.

Bring your own chess sets or clocks (we will have some available for use as well).

Also, online tournaments in our club will be resuming Friday, Jun 4 with our June Rapid Swiss #1.

And an update on the Goebel Center. Since it is still being used as a vaccination site, it will only re-open in a very limited fashion during the summer months. (This is mainly just dance/exercise classes). Their plan is to resume full, normal programming for the fall session, so we can expect a tentative return to our indoor club around September. This, of course, is still up in the air, because it depends on the state of the pandemic at that time!
I know everyone is eager to get back to competitive over-the-board chess. Our plan is to continue in-person meetings at the park on Mondays throughout the summer. At the moment this is just open play, but I’m hoping to schedule some rated or unrated tournaments soon! Be on the lookout for announcements.
